THE NEW MUSEUM OF THE ETRUSCAN ACADEMY

The new museum of the Etruscan Academy and of the City of Cortona is an essential leg to discover Cortona. The museum joins the historical Etruscan Academy Museum and the Museum of the Etruscan and Roman City of Cortona in a single exibition. /t has its seat in Palazzo Casali, one of the oldest buildings in town, where extraordinary masterpieces of the Etruscan civilization are displayed in an exhibition area of more than 2000 square metres. On the top floors ofthe Museum one can admire the ancient collections of the Etruscan Academy which sum up the fortune of Etruscology and eighteen- and nineteenth-century collecting with the amazing Etruscan lamp, the small bronzes, the Egyptian collection and the eighteenth-century library.

 

On the ground floor, in the new exhibition area, one can find the largest archaeological finds telling the history of the Etruscan and Roman settlements in the region: the bronze works of art coming from Trestina and Fabrecce, the funerary equipment of the tombs ofthe Cortona plsin, the famous Tabula Cortonensis and the remains of the Roman villa Ossaia.
